Intel Launches Digg For Software
Cool Software, or shorter CoolSW, is Intel’s take on the RSVC (Read Submit Vote Comment) concept. It’s a Digg-like site for software: people who are passionate about software can submit various software items and vote on those they think are best.
Intel took a very vanilla approach on this one: CoolSW is a very simple site, with absolutely no novelty as far as these type of sites go. In fact, it’s so plain that it seems to be based on Pligg, the open source Digg-like CMS; and, if you believe this thread over at Pligg forums, it’s true.
So, except some very minor design work, Intel put exactly zero time, money and effort into developing this one. The idea, while OK, is not revolutionary either. And, as we know, vanilla Pligg sites don’t fare too well. Actually, the only reason why anyone would ever report on this is the fact that it’s Intel based. I wish them luck, but until they come up with something new and interesting, for my software news needs I’ll still stick with Digg’s software section.

I was surprised myself that they used Pligg and when I found out it cost them $40k to develop I had to write about it and compare it to what we launched with on Tuesday. A shame large companies can’t do better.

Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.

We desired to have a discourse heading about this matter. Might anyone broaden on the subject anyone published about right here?
