Pandora: Permanent International Silence

When Pandora, everyone’s favorite online music service (if you disregard Last.FM) announced they’ll be refusing their services to users outside of the US, everyone affected hoped it was just a temporary situation.

Well, it appears it is not. Unless you live in the US, the chances of you ever listening to Pandora are grim, although Tim Westergren, Pandora’s founder, still mentions ‘cautious optimism’. Well, Tim, I feel your pain, but I’m kinda prepared to move on.

Back in the time where the initial announcement of Pandora’s international silence were made, I compiled a list of ways to listen to Pandora if you don’t live in the US. It mostly included simple proxies, and none of those methods work any more. However, a host of interested users found their way to that article, and suggested a number of new methods, some of which supposedly still work in some places. Great job, guys & girls: keep on fighting the man! Read them all in the comments of the original article.

Thanks for posting these alternative methods Stan. It’s unfortunate and ironic that just when Internet radio was receiving a positive and legitimate response by the international community that it gets walled off. I had just begun to introduce my co-workers and my dad to Pandora as a new way of finding music that would interest them. Alas, short-sightedness and fear has led to acts that fail the end customer again.
