Pownce Really Following Twitter, Even in Downtime

What is it with these miniblogging/web messaging services that it’s so hard to keep them online? One of the biggest complaints over at Twitter was frequent downtime, and when Pownce launched, people that started using the service hoped for it to be much more stable than Twitter.

Alas, it doesn’t bode well for Pownce at this moment. In the last couple of days it’s been on and off, with periods of downtime, slowness and - rarely - normal operation. It all reminds me unpleasantly of Twitter’s problems (which still aren’t fully resolved, by the way). At least Twitter had a LOLcat image when it was down - Pownce is just not responding.

While I hate to criticize a service that’s still young and in beta, we have to remember that Pownce is still invite-only; if it’s having uptime problems now, what will happen when it goes public?

isnt pownce still in alpha or beta testing? Its not open to the public yet so that would be a reason for issues…this is the time they are suppose to have them before they go public.

@Jeff: as I’ve said, it’s beta, but everything is beta. Gmail is also beta and invite-only (: I agree that we should cut them some slack before they go public; I just hope they won’t fall in the same traps as Twitter.

gmail has not been open for awhile now actually. These days I think a few crashes are common…I cant think of a service that hasnt had down time.

opps i was thinking off two ways to say what i was thinking…meant to say gmail has been open to the public for awhile now.

This is the same question I have been asking myself for a long time. What is it that makes a service like Twitter so unstable? I don’t care if Pownce is still invite only of it it’s still in a BETA state. The fact of the matter is, they have had more than enough time to evaluate services such as Twitter, and Jaiku in order to put a proper infrastructure in place. Someone within the Pownce team had to of had an active Twitter account in which they would of experienced all of the downtime that service caused. I just don’t understand. On the surface, it looks like any joe schmoe could create a service like this and maintain it but, even these guys with big VC funding can’t seem to stop dropping the ball.

WHy would he get dropped by pride when they’re matching him up with a can? Can’s serve one purpose, it’s to make big names look BETTER. And with Rampage most likely beating the crap out of Dong Sik, Pride isn’t going to “drop” someone whose just won a fight. Let alone someone who has an established history of prosper with the organization. Pride isn’t like the UFC where they drop long-time fighters after a victory. Common man.
