Steve from ZDNet’s Social Web reports that the city of Amsterdam has been sold for $50.000. He’s talking, of course, about the Second Life’s virtual replica of Amsterdam, a place known for open solicitation of sex and drugs, which pretty much makes it a laggy hell.
Virtual Amsterdam was sold on eBay by a guy called Stroker Serpentine, who’s going to start a new adult business. That’s what’s cool about virtual worlds: the city of Amsterdam isn’t all that; you can always build a bigger, better, and more adult-only city. Not much is known about the new owner, except that he is from the Netherlands. I guess 50.000 bucks isn’t that much if you want to own your country’s capital.

Anyone heard of the new virtual real estate site www.weblo.com? It’s acutally a pretty cool idea, but only if it takes off and becomes popular. Most any city that is worth anything is already bought up, but there are several states still unregistered for a hefty price. I bought my home town for $6 bucks, Westminster, UK for $15 bucks, Flying Dog Brewery in Denver for $3.25, and the TechCrunch headquarters (hehe) for $3.25. I guess you’re right, but pixels reallly takes that to he edge.
I’m happy for the people that get rich of SecondLife by become virtual real estate agents and moguls of sorts, and I guess the buyers are happy two… Hopefully they can still afford to live in their real houses!
