Summize - a new perspective on online shopping

Out of many web startups covered here on FranticIndustries, I only go back to a handful. Some of them are out of my scope of interest, and some of them are missing that killer feature that would convert me into an everyday user.

Summize, a new beta service covered very thoroughly over at Read/WriteWeb will definitely be one of the service I’ll keep going back to. Simply put, Summize helps you with online shopping. It’s a search engine for products, which also shows you all the user opinions on a particular product it can find. Furthermore, it calculates the number of negative, so-so and positive reviews and produces a heatmap which gives you a great visual way to quickly assess the quality of the product.

Summize heatmaps

Anyone who’s ever tried shopping online will easily recognize how useful this is. Instead of wading through dozens of (often poorly worded) user reviews on a camera or a monitor, you can now instantly recognize if a product is worth your time. And, if the answer is yes, you can read all those user reviews in one place, instead of going through poorly designed, ad-ridden online shopping sites.

The only problem with Summize I see at this point is that it simply doesn’t index enough products/websites. For example, a search for a Samsung 226BW had no results, although it’s quite a popular LCD monitor at the moment. If/when this is rectified, Summize will have a permanent place in my bookmarks.
