My.Netscape relaunches tomorrow
My.Netscape, Netscape’s personalized portal, will be relaunched tomorrow. The site is currently offline, but according to the official Netscape blog and the screenshots posted there it will be a Netvibes-like personalized portal with over a hundred drag-and-drop modules (containing for example, customizable weather and finance information) to choose from in the start. Of course, users will be able to add generic RSS feeds which are not covered by the default modules. Also, previous users will be able to import their settings into the new site.
From this move it seems that the folks over at Netscape have decided to channel their traffic from old times not only to their RSVC (Read Submit Vote Comment) home page - they’re also willing to experiment with other Web 2.0 concepts that have so far proved to be successful. It’s a good line of reasoning: if you have the traffic, why not channel it into something useful instead of pretending that Netscape the web browser is still relevant.
I look forward to seeing what Netscape has done with the service. Return here for full coverage as soon as My.Netscape goes online. In the meantime, here are some screenshots of the new My.Netscape:

And that’s exactly how it turned out. […]
