Top diggers list reappears on an independent site

It took less than a day for my “prophecy” to fulfill.

Practically hours after Digg’s top user list was removed from Digg, one enthusiast recreated the top list on his site.

Here’s a quote from the site:

“This page is not affiliated with Digg Inc. in any way, except for the fact that it displays information about Digg and its top users. This list is compiled by Christopher Finke, and it is updated twice per day using publicly available information. This list is made available for no other reason than to recognize the time spent and effort contributed by the individuals listed below.”

As it turns out, Digg admins cannot simply take away features from users. The community is powerful, and the community has the power to choose.

    I wonder if they’ll get a Cease & Desist?

Congratulations on predicting this. Astute observations as always.

I’m not an expert on law, but I think such hacks are completely normal and I don’t see any reason for Cease & Desist. If Digg really wants to make such a top user list impossible to make, there are ways to do it.

The only reason they’d issue a cease and desist is if it was illegal or at least legally debatable, which it isn’t. I think they probably don’t want to take any more flak over this issue. That would just serve to draw more criticism and maybe media attention.

*update: changed the title to make it actually make some sense.
