Geni - create your family tree
Geni is a web service that lets you create your genealogy tree. It has a very simple interface, looks swell, and - like most new web services - it’s free and requires only a simple registration process to use.
Geni is good at what it does, but I’ve found one simple (but big) drawback - it doesn’t recognize exotic characters. This basically means if you’re from Eastern Europe (and, most probably Finland, China, Japan, etc.) it’s going to look pretty ugly. This is not a service aimed only at English-speaking crowd, so I expect this issue to be high on the priority list of the developers. Other issues I’ve noticed are the disappearing cursor, and Alt+v not working for “@” sign (you must use Shift+2),
The social component of the service is as simple as can be. You can invite family members by simply creating their record in your family tree and then entering their e-mail address. This automatically creates their family tree, which is the perfect way to spread the service. I’ve sent an invite, but it didn’t work for me. I hope it’s a temporary bug. Also, I didn’t find a way to delete someone from your tree once you’ve added them. Interaction between members, though, should probably be enhanced with some sort of journal, chat or a message board, because as it is the users might feel a bit detached from each other.
Overall, despite minor glitches (which can easily be ironed out), Geni is fun. I love it, and I think it’s going to be a hit.

I have visited Geni website. It is good.
Now I have come across a better site; Kincafe. Anybody on this Earth can use Kincafe.
Kincafe.com {connect. bond. cherish.} , a web 2.0 social network for families that captures updates from one’s family & friends, allows the building and linking of family trees and simplifies the sharing of family treasures like; photo albums, stories, birthdays, anniversaries, interests, news and blogs.
Powerful features include:
1. Family tree based navigation. Members use their own family tree to get to albums and blogs of a connected family member at anytime. You don’t have to preserve the album links sent in numerous emails.
2. Collaborate with your family to build family tree together, with ability to control who can modify which profiles.
3. Secure – Users control security of their information. Can choose different sharing levels within the network for DOB, contact information, last name, albums etc.
4. Kincafe digs the latest albums and stories from the network and presents right upon login.
5. Drag and drop based Album creation.
6. HTML and Ajax based UI. No flash.
Please get in touch with andy@kincafe.com for any help.
