The Venice Project - give us the beta, now!
GigaOM has a writeup of the Venice Project, a torrent-based Youtube-like service from the founders of Skype and Kazaa. Unfortunately, although it is supposedly possible to become a beta tester, very few invites have been sent so far, so I haven’t been able to try it out.
Well, the fact that I haven’t actually seen the service won’t stop me from bashing it senseless! Just kidding; I look forward to trying it out; the only thing I can say for now that, unlike YouTube, it’s an application you have to install on your PC, so it’s basically more like eMule for videos and I doubt it will be a serious competition to YouTube which has become synonymous for “quick fun on the internet”. Also, YouTube already has tons of content, while any new service that comes up first must build a database of content to become interesting. We’ll see if the Venice Project will reach the tipping point to become ‘the’ place to watch online video.
