Although pretty much everything is said about the RIAA and their ‘no carrot and a stick up the ***’ tactics, I will never miss an opportunity to point my finger at the screw ups they’re so good at doing. This time, after basically admitting they sued the wrong person - Patricia Santangelo, a mother of five - they’ve decided to move on and make a case against her kids.

So, this time it’s not about legal or illegal music sharing, it’s about suing someone - causing them a lot of financial and probably psychological grief in the process - and then dropping the suit without any financial or other responsibilities. Suing the woman’s kids is just adding insult to injury.

Let’s go over this just one more time, kids. Laws that let you sue ‘noone in particular’, just waving your finger in the general direction of a couple of IP’s, are bad. Laws that let you sue someone, then admit you sued the wrong person, and then get away with it without any financial repercussions , are worse. Hell, the lawsuit should cost RIAA an amount comparable in RELATIVE numbers to what it cost that woman to defend herself: if she hasn’t got money to eat after the lawsuit, then RIAA should have no money to eat too.

We all know what this means, right? Since it’s that festive time of year, it’s time to go over to Downhill Battle, buy some of those RIAA Radar stickers, and have fun in your local CD store.
