While some people (ok, they’re mostly politicians) and companies still think that knowing what the internets are is a sign of forward thinking, Web 2.0 is obviously reaching some advanced stages of evolution.
The proof of this is Mix-Mas, a simple Web 2.0 application made by Mantis, which - although it could probably be used anytime - is made specifically for the holidays, and will most probably last only a week or two. So, not only are Web two-oh apps springing from everywhere each day - the Web 2.0 phenomenon is so common that some of those apps are instant-apps, made to create a bit of a buzz for a couple of weeks, and nothing more. And why not? It’s a nice way of promoting your company. I look forward to seeing more of this type of marketing in campaigns of big companies - once they fully catch on with the Web 2.0 wave.
Mix-mas enables you to create a pretty detailed avatar, write a simple holiday greeting and send it to a couple of e-mails. Instead of getting a plain old crappy-gif e-mail holiday card, you are sent to the Mix-Mas site where your avatar stands in the middle of an holiday-themed, evolving landscape, surrounded by other lively avatars. Simple and fun.
